Jerry is a young, very lucky rabbit. He was picked up in Jericho Park with an injured front leg. Vet examination revealed that he had a dislocated shoulder and a badly broken humerus (upper arm bone). To top it off he had a big abscess on his shoulder. The vets first cleaned up the abscess and put him on antibiotics. After the infection cleared up the leg was to be amputated. However, during the 2 weeks of waiting, Jerry formed a false joint for his shoulder and the bone break started to heal. He was putting weight on the leg and moving it around so well that it was hard to tell he had been injured. Further x-rays showed that the injury was healing and there was no need to take off his leg. The leg in the photo is the one that was broken.
Jerry is an amazing bunny. He is timid and scares easily but is ok with being petted. He will need a quieter home with patient people but such an amazingly resilient bunny really deserves a loving home. If you want to adopt Jerry, please apply today!
