Samantha's Story

Samantha is a sweet natured girl bunny less than a year old, who was dumped by her family in a pet store. She was purchased as a cute baby rabbit because the kids saw her and wanted her. It wasn't long before the children were bored and the mother was tired of cleaning her cage. She was brought back to the store. As she was not a "baby" rabbit and "undesirable" to sell for a pet, the store owner could always sell her as snake food. Samantha was just about to be bought as snake snack when a kind soul bought her first and turned her over to VRRA. Samantha has been spayed and will need a loving home with no large snakes.

This very sweet, friendly, delightful little rabbit almost lost her life most probably due to ignorance on behalf of her first buyer. Rabbits are not good pets for children. They require much too much work and daily attention to be left to a child, even older children as they are generally at a time in their lives when things change drastically. Samantha is a wonderful house bunny, very clean, friendly and good. If her first family had had her spayed and known how to care for her properly they would probably still have this lovely little rabbit as their companion.

Please do not get into rabbit ownership without becoming knowledgeable about their care and needs. They are wonderful family pets but must have a responsible adult as their caregiver. They are a 10 year commitment and not a pet you can leave alone for the weekend. Always get a bunny from a shelter or rescue group and so provide a homeless rabbit with a loving place. These rabbits are usually socialized, spayed or neutered and already good with their litter box. Please support us and other rescues by passing this on to anyone interested in getting a pet rabbit.
