Rabbit Rescue

While Rescue work can be very rewarding it can also be very sad. The fact is that we cannot save them all. VRRA hopes to improve the situation for rabbits through education. You can help by enlightening anyone with the wrong ideas about what kind of pet a rabbit is and by speaking out against it if you hear people talking about turning their pet rabbit "loose". Below are some links to help with rescue work.

Three Rescues July 2006

VRRA received a call from a concerned person about rabbits being kept in inhumane conditions. Investigation found 3 rabbits being kept in dirty cages on a front porch. They were never allowed in the house or out of the cage. The main care-giver was a child. The owners agreed to give the bunnies into the care of VRRA. The mother and daugher rabbits (above left) are now spayed and in a loving foster home. The little boy bunny (above right) is now neutered and also in foster care. All bunnies are enjoying a chance to run, jump and play for the first time in their lives. They are very friendly, attractive bunnies now available to a permanent home.

This rescue illustrates the importance of potential rabbit owners understanding the needs of the animal and the kind of care they require. Many people do not mean to be unkind but ignorance leads to neglect and misery for the bunnies.
